I have been asked numerous times what are my favorite pens, and the truth is I love soo many that I have a hard time narrowing it down. But, just because I love everyone on here I made the effort to narrow it down to my Top 5 and as you will continue to read I will list all the features of each pen as well as show you the quality in which they write in.
#5- Pilot Juice .5 Gel Pens
I am a huge fan of gel pens and most of my stash at home consists of gel pens because of how smooth they write and the consistency of the ink itself. I had ordered these from Japan because lets face it they have some cool stuff when it comes to planner goodies and if your as crazy as I am you absolutely loove office supplies and they have a huge array of them!!
- Fine Lines
- Smooth writing
- Does not bleed through thin Paper
- Click pens no worries about losing caps
- Will not write on all forms of paper
- Lighter colors hard to read on white paper and don’t stand out enough on blackout paper
- Might be too thin for some people
#4-Staedtler triplus fineliner Pens
When I started really getting into Planners this was the first set of pens I purchased. If you tend to write a lot in your planner and have to fit it all in small spaces then this is the pen for you!! These pens are super fine tipped and the great thing about them is that they are guaranteed to never dry out, so with that being said if you have moments of forgetfulness and don’t put the cap on never fear! They will still write perfectly! These pens come in multiple size packs as well as multiple color packs soo you have quite a variety to choose from!
- Ergonomic, triangular barrel
- Easel Storage Case
- Water Based Ink
- Will not bleed through
- Not for everyone
- Very fine point might be difficult to read for some people
- Not click pen, they have caps
#3- PaperMate Ink Joy Gel .7
Ever since I saw the first commercial of these pens I knew I just had to have them (to add to my extensive collection of course!) They offer quite a variety of colors and they write smooth! And lets face it they are just overall cool looking pens, am I right??

#2-Pilot G2 Pens 0.7
I have been using these pens for as long as I can remember these have been my all time favorites since High School! (hopefully that didn’t give away my age at all!) I have always loved them for the fact that they write smooth and they are click pens as well as the have a huge array of colors you can choose from even metallics!! But unfortunately because they are again 0.7 they run out of ink fairly quickly. You can stick to the traditional colors of black, blue and red OR you can be adventurous and go for the greens, oranges, purples and pinks and so many more!
- Smooth writing
- A variety of colors to choose from
- Click Pens, No caps
- Will not bleed through MOST papers
- May bleed through thinner papers
- Ink runs out quickly
#1-Paper Mate Flair Pens Md
These weren’t always my all time favorites, but I have come to love them nevertheless. They also offer a huge variety of colors and continue to come out with new colors constantly! I have set aside the fact that they are cap pens only because I love how they write and they do not bleed through any planners that I use. Depending on where you go to purchase them they can be pricey and it also depends on how big of a variety pack you go for as well. But, like most pens just keep your eyes peeled and you might stumble upon a great deal!
- Variety of vibrant Colors
- Found everywhere
- Do not bleed through
- Cap Pens
- Can be pricey depending on store
- Can dry out
I hope this helps you on your scavenger hunt for the best pens. If you’re anything like me it won’t make things any easier! If anything it just convinced you that you need a bigger variety of pens therefore, the shopping must go on! Believe me, to this day I am constantly in a battle with myself on which pen to use that day in my planner or even for some simple notes! At the end of the day its about what makes you happy and keeps you motivated to add ink to that planner on the daily!! Till next time, Plan On!!
